WD Red disappears after some time

Hello
I’m going crazy, I’ve been using the WD Green 2TB in my Linux NAS for a long time. In addition, I added a WD Red (WD30EFRX). The hard disk can be integrated. After some time I get the following error:

Jun 8 05:48:40 ub16 kernel: [214199.163603] sd 0: 0: 0: 0: [sda] tag # 27 FAILED Result: hostbyte = DID_BAD_TARGET driverbyte = DRIVER_OK
Jun 8 05:48:40 ub16 kernel: [214199.163616] sd 0: 0: 0: 0: [sda] tag # 27 CDB: ATA command pass through (16) 85 06 2c 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 e5 00

After that I can not see the HD.
Here my Linux Version: ub16 4.4.0-78-generic

Then I thought, try it with Windows7. The same behavior. Disk formatted files copied and after some time the disk was in “standby mode”. The engine switched off and you could no longer access.

Does anyone have a helpful tip?
I am so at the despair … HELP
thx

Hello,

I recommend you run a diagnostic using WD DLG.

Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows

Hello,

thanks for your help!
Here the results from the WD DLG…

The Smart values are ok.

The quicktest does not run completely and shows the following error:

The extended Test start and show “Bad Sectors” … then i press repair.

What about my hard drive? Is it dead?

thx for helping me!

Hello
i started the extended Test again (~8h) and show following message…

Test Option: EXTENDED TEST
Model Number: WDC WD30EFRX-68EUZN0
Unit Serial Number: Deleted by Moderator
Firmware Number: 82.00A82
Capacity: 3000.59 GB
SMART Status: PASS

Test Error Code: 08-Too many bad sectors detected.

Sounds not good … too many bad sectors :weary:

And now?

Write Zeros to the hard drive to completely clean it and attempt to repair bad sectors. This is of course data-destructive. If the unit still has bad sectors after a full erase then it should be replaced.
