WD Quick Formatter not providing XP Compatible option - I need 512K Emulation

We have 2 new 3 TB Elements External Hard Drive - they show up in WD Quick Formatter, and can format them without a problem, however there is no option to format it in  XP Compatible mode (see pic).

I need this drive to format with XP Compatible mode to emulate 512 sectors, as the 4096 is giving us problems in Backup Exec.  From what Symantec Support told me, the backup failures are due to the source drive being 512 and the target (3 TB Element) being 4096.

Please help - these 3 TB drives are useless unless I can find a solution.

Our OS is MS Windows Small Business Server 2003 SP2

Backup Exec 12.5

I dont know why WD decided to just recet the image I posted- which was of their own product, and clearly showed that the options for the XP Compatible format was not present.    In any case, I am hoping someone can still help me out.

The private message I sent you clearly explains why I rejected that image. It also mentions what you need to do in order to get it approved.

Also, your OS could be part of the problem. The application may not be properly interacting with your hard drives because of your OS even though it appears to run and execute.

I am having the same issue. I need to prepare two of the elements drives for use on an XP system. The quick formatter does not show the XP compatibility / default choices for me either. Please advise.

Thanks

It’s not possible to convert a 4096 Byte disk to 512 Bytes

It’s not possible either to enable 512 Byte Emulation on a 4096 byte disk

512 Byte Emultation is handled by the Disk Controller … it’s not software based emulation

it’s hardware based.

Only solutions are …

Find / Purchase on older 3TB/4TB Hard drive with 512 Byte Emulation

Update your PC Operating System and Software to support 4096 Byte (4K Advanced Format)

Sorry :frowning: but technology advances … and older technology, hardware & software eventually becomes obselete.
