WD Quick Formatter not allowing 4k to 512 sector format

Hi All

There are several references to using the WD Quick Formatter to change your logical sector size to 512 from 4096. Some refer to it as the reset to factory default.

However the WD QF you can download and the one that comes on the drive does not have any options to be XP compatible or factory reset etc…

And every time I format I get 4096 again afterwards when I checck with fsutil

I need 512 for 2008 r2 VSS backup.

Please help ASAP

Many thanks in advance

Hello,

Take a look at this link to verify if it helps.

http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/search/1/a_id/3868

I have done all of these… Thats why my post says that the utility does not list those options so I cannot do as it explanis in other WD posts.

For the sake of process… I have just done it again as per your link and I do not get any options and the sector info following this is still 4096 so I cannot use.

More suggestions pls WD.

Thanks

Also tried to use WD Align as per WD support… but It only seems to either say I have aligned drives already and do nothing else if I have already paritioned.

If I do not paritition then  the WD Align tool does not even see the drive.

Help please anyone

Hey Anyone>!?!

WD are now saying you cannot do this with external drives but posts from WD support on their forum suggest you can.
