Running on Imac os 10.13.3; backing up with time machine. after a backup, the hardrive seems to unmount and shows no files in finder. And yet it is visible in Disk Utility. I get the message, Time Machine couldn’t complete the backup to “iMac Backup white”, an error occurred while creating the backup folder. I have talked to Apple several times about this and they cannot determine the problem. If I unplug the drive from the computer, then plug it in, it will do one backup, then it will do no more, and I get the same error again. Please help!
Is your iMac encrypted HFS+? Run First Aid on your iMac and WD Passport and see the results.
Running first aid for the iMac drive and the WD backup drive did not solve the problem. It continues to do exact what I described. The WD drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Scheme: GUID Partition Map. Should the drive be encrypted HFS+ ??? I don’t know how to check that.
