WD My Passport Ultra 2TB formatted for Mac does not mount any longer after trying to attach it to Windows

Hello Everyone.

I hope someone could help me to resolve the following problem.

I have been using my WD Passport 2TB on Mac without any issues. Just yesterday I have tried to connect it to a PC. I could see that the Windows has installed the drivers for it and has mounted it too, - yet it did not appear in “Computer” and I could not access any files. On PC it shows up in “Devices”, yet not among the hard drives and can not be accessed.

Afterwards as I have tried to connect it back to my Mac OS X 10.6.8 (old i know) it does not mount any longer. It spins and everything but does not mount. It also did not fall, - nothing of such.

After trying to access it through terminal and trying to de-install windows drivers from windows, - only thing I could find after installing the WD software on Windows is that the SMART system seems to fail.

Do you think there is any way I could mount it on Mac again and recover my files? This would be absolutely amazing!

I would appreciate any advice and many thanks in advance!

Hello,

you may try running the “first aid” option in disk utility. If this doesn’t work then you can try recovering your data using a data recovery software.

Hey hey,

thanks a lot for your response.

Yet the neither disc-utility nor data recovery software (Disk Drill is the one I have) can mount/see the HardDrive…
