WD My Passport For Mac Has Stopped Working

Hello, my Passport for Mac used to work great and has recently stopped showing up completely. I tried to buy a new cord, check if it is showing up in disk utility, and gone through a lot of the troubleshooting steps to try to mount the drive on several different macs. When plugged in, the small white light turns on and I can feel the passport humming so I know it is fully connected and receiving power. I’m not sure why it has suddenly stopped mounting. Thank you for any help!

When you connect an external hard drive on Mac, it will show up on Desktop, Finder, and Disk Utility. But sometimes the external drive won’t appear at any of these places. To fix the issue, you can try the below methods:

  1. Change macOS settings
  2. Reset Mac firmware settings
  3. Fix external hard drive connectivity issue
  4. Troubleshoot external hard drive
  5. Recover data from non-mounting external mac hard drive using reliable data recovery software

Further, I suggest you to check the below link for detailed steps to be followed in each method above.

Hope it helps!

I kept getting the dreaded disk is full Mac message, and I had no clue what was taking up so much space. Since I’m in the USA and rely on my Mac for editing work, I needed a solution fast. I found a guide that explained what was filling up my storage and how to free up space properly. It turns out I had gigabytes of useless cached files. After following the steps, my Mac finally stopped giving me storage warnings, and I can actually install updates without deleting important files.

Try these steps if your WD My Passport for Mac has stopped working: Check the cable and port, try a different Mac, and reset the SMC/NVRAM. Use Disk Utility > First Aid to repair it. If not recognized, check System Information > USB or reformat it in Disk Utility if necessary.

hmm … since it’s getting power but not mounting, it could be a corrupted file system. Try running First Aid in Disk Utility or check if it appears in System Information > USB. If nothing works, data recovery software might be the next step.
