WD My Book Pro - corrupted files - will not connect with computer

A data recovery company indicated that the hardware is working correctly but that a corrupted file or files in the drive are preventing the external drive from connecting with the laptop. When the external drive is plugged into the laptop, the laptop crashes.

The question is, how can I wipe clean the external drive manually? Is there a reset button on the external drive that when pushed will wipe clean the drive?

Thanks.

Hi @DL12123,

Please refer below link to help you with trouble shooting steps:

What filesystem is your external hard drive and what macOS you are running? Did the “Data recovery” company indicate which file or its format is causing the trouble? If you need to erase the drive then try booting your Mac in the recovery mode. Once in the recovery mode go to Disk Utility and select the drive and erase it. But before erasing make sure you have the proper backup of the files.
