I have a WD My Book Essential 1.5TB and it was working fine but today I tried to load it on my pc and it never mounted properly. I kept hearing this sound as if a record was skipping coming from the drive and kept popping up as a local drive underneath a different drive letter than what was assigned to it. Is there anything I can do to recover the drive or have it mount properly?
Try finding your my book on the disk management window, if you can see it there you can try to use a data recovery program to recover your files.
Try plugging the power adapter into a different outlet and don’t use a surge protetor strip. It may be a power issue.
