WD Media Player for a Non-tech Savvy Newbie

Hi Everyone,
I have been a fan of WD products since I started downloading movies and TV shows. I have a collection of almost 7000 movies and I keep them on four 4TB WD Hard Drives. I have been very happy with my WD Live Player and never had an issue with its performance. Recently I ordered a new one on Ebay and, to my dismay, this one will not play any of my MP4 files so I had to convert them all to AVI which was time consuming and on many of them I have to adjust the sound to sync with the video…sometimes several times during the movie. This isn’t the problem. The problem is that, since the WD Media Player has been discontinued and I have no computer savvy to build my own, what can I use to play all of my movies (MKV, AVI, MP4 (I hope), or do I have to keep buying used WD media players on Ebay or Amazon. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I love the ease and the user friendliness of the WD products and I wish they still made the player. Oh, also I am 60 years old "so I don’t understand all of this newfangled electronic stuff (cough-cough).

I stopped using WDTV Media Players about 5 to 6 years ago and have been using a Raspberry Pi 2 then 3 in that time with Zero issues … everything has played back perfectly and have been very happy with it. (planning on getting a Raspberry Pi 4 for 4K Playback and HEVC hardware decoding)

I know you said your’re not ‘computer savvy’ but it’s very easy to put together a Raspberry Pi Media Center running Kodi (Media Player Software) and you’ll have a the satisfaction of doing it yourself.

All you need is a Raspberry Pi 3 + Power Supply + Mirco SD Card (Remote Control is Optional as you can use your TV Remote Control to control it)

All you do is download the Kodi software extract it (use 7zip) then write it to a Micro SD Card (use Win32Diskimager) and that’s it … dead easy.

Put the Micro SD Card into the Raspberry Pi 3 connect the power and HDMI and 4 USB Hard drives and you have yourself a great little Media Player that will play everything (MP4,MKV,AVI etc)

Happy to help with assistance if you decide to get one
