WD Home Mycloud setting up SMB local access after expiry of WD Discovery

Hi THere’s a latest announcement that WD DIscovery will be expiring on Jun 30

WD discovery is needed to access the folders locally but the latest firmware 8.12 or later can allow SMB access.
I’ve managed to set it up so that SMB local access is allowed to my folders on the WD Mycloud Home. BUt the shared folders from other users aren’t visible yet.

Just wondering if the other users need to set up the same and then enable the Files & Folder sharing on those folders so that these Shared folders can be accessed by way of the SMB local access method.

In other words, “sharing” folders between users will require doing it on the Web app (as before) and also by way of windows sharing in order to enable both online and local files/folder sharing.

For the Web access or mobile access everything else will remain the same I suppsoe

Please advise if my above understanding is correct?

Thanks

Donald

Hi @kkdon,

Please refer to the article How to Enable Local Network Access to Data on My Cloud Home and ibi Using the Dashboard:
https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detailweb/a_id/34991/kw/34991

Please contact the WD Technical Support team for best assistance and troubleshooting:https://support-en.wd.com/app/ask

Actually what I’m trying to do is to access the shared folder by another user to me

The new method of local access only allows one to access his own folders, but not shared folders created by other users

Please kindly advise how this can be done

thanks

donald

Does this new way of connecting the MCH allow for:

  1. Desktop sync? Meaning, is there a way to choose a folder to always have synced with the Mac as is the case with WD Discovery?

  2. Remote desktop sync? Meaning, if I am not in my home computer, will any changes made to folders/files which are synced be made to the MCH from an outside location?

My router does not support UPnP. Am I out of luck?

Thanks,

Steven

Interesting. I followed the steps and was able to mount a folder in Windows Explorer. However, when I use the logon/PW it will not allow me access to that folder. Any ideas? Thanks!

for some reason my drive does not update above 7.16.0-220. so no SMB is available for me.
