WD Elements Issues with Windows 8

Hello,

Last week I bought a WD Elements 1TB with USB 3.0 to use with my computer. I backed up everything from my Windows 7 system without any kind of problem. Later I updates my computer with Windows 8 Pro and then the issues just started…

Every time I connect my HDD to the computer, it just keeps disconnecting. It’s just random, sometimes I can copy for example 20GB, and other times it just disconnects a couple of seconds after I connect it to the computer, even if I’m not doing anything. It just keeps disconnecting and connecting again, I even ear the USB connect sound on Windows, even if the hard drive is in a stable position. I tried to copy the data to other computer with Windows 7 and I could do it without any problem.

There is any kind of solution to this problem? I have urgency to solve this and I want to use it with Windows 8, so if I cannot use this hard drive probabily I’ll just go to the shop where I bought it and exchange it for another brand.

Thank you for the help,

Fabio Almeida

Sound like a connection problem, be sure to connect the USB cable directly to the computer, avoid using extension USB cables or USB hubs.

I always connected the USB cable directly to my computers and I’m sure that the cable is well connected both to HDD and USB port. And it is in a stable position without any movements, so that’s not the problem.

And I believe it works fine with Windows 7, the problem is just with Windows 8.

It sounds like the problem is Windows 8. Did you do a clean install or an upgrade from Windows 7? Upgrades frequently have issues. Was your Windows 8 Install media a commercial DVD or a download you burned? It might be corrupt or burned to fast. It’s best not to burn those ISOs faster than 4X. If you downloaded it did you do a hash check?

I downloaded it officially from MSDNAA. I did the hash check and I burned it into DVD as 4x and the verification when without any problem. I did a clean install also.
