WD Elements is not mounting and when it does it disconnects after a while

my WD is not mounting or shows in finder. and when it does it shows only every now and then, yet i cant use it. while copying files it suddenly stops and shows that i disconnected it wrong. when it does show i can see the backup from time machine and files stored.

USB ports are working perfect

i’m working on a macbook, OSX 10.7.5

my WD elements is not having an extra power suppy, can’t give more details as i cant get connected to it.

guess it is the 500GB version

it is possible the unit to enter in stand-by/sleep mode after a certain period of inactivity. The WD My Book and WD Passport drive families allow you to change the sleep-timer behavior and even disable it, but this feature is not available for the WD Elements family.

I’d recommend checking if you are able to obtain a hard drive sleep timer control app from the App store and see if it helps.

i just changed the settings into 4 hours,

it connected directly to my macbook

and is copying now.

getting an error code -43

and the macbook is no longer able to find the drive

Maybe you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this. You can do so either by phone or email.
