Hi,
I purchased a WD Elements drive that was ready for Mac and Windows, I originally wanted to partition it so that I could use it for my macbook as well as my PC. I formatted it to exFAT. When I tried to copy files from my desktop to my harddrive, it was taking extremeley long - about 16 hours for 20 GB of data. I gave up on it and put the drive in a drawer for a couple months. Now I’m trying again, I decided to try to format my drive for Windows without a partition. I downloaded the WD Quick Formatter, and it gave me the message that “Formatting Failed”. So I tried to do it manually in Disk Management in Computer Management. I tired to format it to NTFS but it didn’t work. Once it was finished, I tried to open the drive to view the files and an error message popped up that said that it wasn’t formatted. So instead I formatted it as exFAT again, this time it worked. But now, as I am copying my files to the hard drive, the time estimate was 13 hours for 28 GB of data, speed is 232 KB/second.
Does anyone know how I can fix this?
Could it be that I have a lemon?
