WD Elements 107c USB 3TB drive and MS SBS2011 Std backups

I have a newbie question.  I have just set up a MS SBS 2011 Standard server.  I had two WD 2TB drives that I was using for backups.  I wanted to increase the number of drives in my rotation and also increase the amount of storage because my backup size is around 1.5 TB (and one of my drives died).  So I decided that I would buy three 3TB drives.  I found a good deal on the WD Elements 107b 3TB drives and had my purchasing department buy them.  Now Im having problems because of the 512kb sector limit in SBS2011.  I’m trying to figure out if I can get them to conform to the 512e standard but they do not seem to want to work.  I found an article that tells me to use the WD quick format tool and format them to “Factory Default” (website is http://glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1438829). .%C2%A0) I looked and found what I thought was the quick format tool “Extfat32_2.00”.  When I run that program it tells me that my drive is too small (huh?).  Can someone tell me how to get these drives to work with SBS 2011 std backup?  Or, I am wasting my time here and should just eat a little crow with my boss and buy 2TB drives to do my backups?

Thanks in advance

Charles

For a start drives larger than 2 T use GPT instead of MRB. I don’t know if these drives are supported for servers. You might try reformatting on a regluar Windows desktop using a third party tool here is one  http://www.partition-tool.com/personal
