I have a 500GB WD Element.

I need to copy across a 125GB file.

When I attempt to do this I get the following error message:

The item “FILM.mov” can’t be copied because it is too large for the volume’s format.

What can I do to rectify this?

I have tried reformatting the drive. I also cannot chop up the file as it is needed as one file.

How big is the file and how is the hard drive formatted? If it’s formatted as FAT32 for Windows-Mac compatibility then you will be unable to copy files larger than 4GB.
