WD Caviar Green 1TB used as backup drive

I have a 1 TB Green drive piggy backed in my system I am using as a backup drive. Last week during a thunder storm, the power went off for 3-5 seconds and then came back on. When I started my computer back up, everything worked fine except for the Green. Windows cannot see it now. If I hook it up to an external USP docking station, Windows can see the drive, but cannot access it. I have booted up on Ubuntu and I can see the drive, see the files and can even start to copy the files off the drive onto my C drive, but after a few seconds, the process errors off.

I have not been able to find a diagnostic/repair utility that can work with the drive in windows or unix.

Any ideas on how to get the data off the Green Drive?

Thanks,

JJ

Welcome to the Community.

Data Lifeguard Diagnostics will be able to diagnose the hard drive for you. However, hard drive repair will require dedicated recovery applications. I have seem Community Member Joe_S mention a few.

I hav downloaded Data Lifeguard, and when I try to access the backup drive, the system just clocks and does nothing.

I have tried to find something in the Linux world that would work since I can access the drive through Ubuntu.

I have also been told it may be a MBR issue. Is that a possability and if so, how is the best way to rebuild it… This drive is just a file storage device with no OS on it.

There are applications available online able to repair a hard drive’s partition table. If such applications do not prove to be fruitful, then the next step is a specialized Data Recover service.
