WD Blue Internal HDD Replacement Option

Hi Team,

My WD5000LPVT (WD Blue) failed and I was informed that the HDD needs replacing. Can I replace it with WD6400BPVT (WD Scorpio Blue) to upgrade the capacity from 500GB to 640GB?

Also, I was using Linux Ubuntu 14.4 before the crash. I was thinking of Going for Windows 7 or 10 this time. Would that be an issue with the HDD change?

Lastly, the error that I got was “The SMART hard disk check has detected an imminent failure.” After the Hard Disc Test, it asks for a boot disk. When I insert it, it goes back to the same error message. Is there a chance I can salvage some files from it if I transfer the HDD to a portable drive and connect it back to my laptop?

Thanks!

Hello,

If you connect the drive to a external case and then use a data recovery software you might have a change in recovering the files.
