I do have another question about WD Black 2TB 2003FZEX versions designs looking different in different countries should I be worried that it might perform different to the other ones.
Heres a picture of an Australian Store selling the WD Black 2TB 2003FZEX 2017 model it looks like it’s missing 2 silver screws on the right side of the image with two holes. Looks like it’s been taken out and tampered then resealed in a different anti static bag very suspicious indeed.
And here is the other version WD Black 2TB 2003FZEX which Australia don’t have at all BUT that’s the model that I want since I’ve heard it performs better than the other ones.
SO my question is do different countries have different looking design & models of the WD Black 2TB Drives is the top image safe ok to buy ? ComputerAlliance.com
https://www.computeralliance.com.au/hard-drives-(3.5)
And here’s the WD Gold 2tb 7200rpm model you can see it has 3 silver screws on the right side of the image.
Where as the top WD Black 2TB 2003FZEX only has 1 silver with scwers with 2 holes at the bottom missing hmm very suspicious indeed.
What took my eye from the 2 pictures of the WD2003FZEX drives, was that the 1st picture appears to show the details of the drive, I.E. S/N, Manufacture date, etc… in the Block of text at the top right of the Label, whereas this Block of text is missing from the 2nd picture, leading me to be suspicious of the 2nd picture, and not the 1st.
However, if you visit the Warranty Check Web Page, you will get a little more confidence after you enter the S/N of the drive, and if it gives a reasonable date, compared with the Manufacture date, it is most likely Real, if on the other hand, ANYTHING, looks strange with respect to the dates, treat it with suspicion and walk away.

…oh, and by the way…
I just looked at some of my WD Black WD2002FAEX HDDs, and they all have Large Black spots down the Left Hand side, and 2 exposed silver screws down the Right hand side. Whereas on a WD Green HDD I can see 3 exposed silver screws down the Right hand side.
So, unless those exposed screws show signs of being ‘misused’, I’m not sure I’d place too much significance on the actual number visible.

Hi thanks for the reply the 2nd picture was from Google image it’s just an example picture of the design of the other model Version.
The first image is the one they are selling in Australia from a reputable online seller called computeralliance.com
So my question is should I be worried about those missing screws? Or are they made like that?
The seller told me the date on that one is 2017 so it’s a new model in stock in there store/warehouse.
So should I buy it for $158AUD after using my 20% off discount coupon code.
Or use the money and buy a a WD Gold 1TB or 2Tb instead?
I will be using it for gaming and storing Music, Movies & Steam Library, So WD Black 2tb or WD Gold 1tb.
Personally I look for the warranty duration. A drive with 5 years warranty is always my preference BUT, these generally are more expensive.
If cost is your main decision driver, then do the simple sums, and work out the $/GB to find a spot that suits you best.
I looked on the ComputerAlliance web site, since I’m also in AU, and their range looks quite extensive.
You could use warehouse1(http://www.warehouse1.com.au/) as an alternate, just to get some comparison.
I’ve purchased from Warehouse1 in the past, and have no issue with the WD supplied drives. I’ve no reason to suspect ComputerAlliance as being “suspicious”, or supplying suspicious hardware.
Comparing the WD2003FZEX between the 2 sites is interesting… try it.

Btw I’m buying from eBay Australia and Computer Alliance & PLE Computers both sellers/stores are on eBay.
I have 2 eBay discount coupon code to use before they run out expire.
- 20% off toys & video games Ends 31st July.
- $20 off when you spend $100 Ends August.
So please help me choose which is better in the long run for gaming since all of these have 5 years warranty.
BUT “PLE Computers” has 3 years standard return to base warranty + Another 5 years for the Drive it self.
That’s for the Western Digital Gold 1Tb & 2Tb.
BUT “PLE Computers” has 3 years standard return to base warranty + Another 5 years for the Drive it self.
That’s for the Western Digital Gold 1Tb & 2Tb so should that be better ?
The Gold drives are “Enterprise” class. The 1TB has 128M Cache. They have a WD warranty of 3 years.
The Black drives are “Desktop” class. The 2TB has 64M Cache. They have a WD Warranty of 5 years.
Enterprise class will command a higher price.
According to the Black Datasheet, these are “gaming” drives.
Be wary of the wording regarding the “additional 5 years warranty”, I cannot see that PLE would offer an additional 5 years over and above the WD Warranty of 3 Years, make sure you have read it correctly, and seek clarification from PLE.
In your shoes, I’d be buying the WD Black. You will get much better cost per GB, and a WD Warranty of 5 years.
Of course, if the drive fails, you are without your data, so make sure you protect it. First take regular backups. Second, use a RAID1 set(if you can afford it).
Whilst we are discussing Warranty. Having used the WD RMA service directly, I’d choose it every time over the resellers RMA Service. Why? because the Reseller becomes another delay in the process.

Alright I will call them up PLE Computers and ask them about the warranty process on the WD Gold 1TB drives.
As I’m 100% sure the WD Gold Drives are Enterpise top of the line hard drives for WD meaning they come with 5 years warranty also another factor is the WD Gold Drives performs better than the WD Black Drives for the same price after using my discount code on eBay.
Btw the Western Digital Gold 1Tb & 2Tb comes with 128m cache with higher read & write speed so I might choose that one over the WD Black.
In the mean time I’ve choosen your commet as the solution.
