I have an old WD15EADS which ran REALLY slow, WD wouldn’t accept it as a warranty item, I (much) later found it was a firmware issue, I have now dug the drive out of a dusty drawer and wondered if anyone has the updated firmware for the drive.

Can you do a deep analysis using Speedfan util and post link to result? Seems this disk has pending bad sectors. On some firmwares even pending sectors cause it to not be accessible while it rescans them.
I have one of these disks and the firmware is the same as posted ^
My disk is configured as 4K sectors properly and it has not been a problem.
