Using My Passport Studio with new Mac Book

I have been using my WD My Passport Studio 1TB with my “old” iMac, running on OS 10.6.8, with FireWire connection wihout any problem.
I would like to upgrade to a new Mac Book running OS Yosemite. These units only have Thunderbolt and USB-3 connections to external peripherals. Question: Will I be able to access my data on My Passport using the new Mac Book (assuming I buy a Thunderbolt-to-FireWire adapter from Apple)?
WD Support was not very helpful. Their response was:
“While an adapter from Apple, or another third party solution provider might work, that configuration is neither recommended nor supported by Western Digital Corporation.”
Is this a software issue ?
Thanks.

Hi there and welcome to the WD community.

Since WD has not tested this types of adapters, they are not supported, as there is no guaratee that your unit will work correctly with them. I suggest Using your device with USB.
