I have stange problem with video files ( mp4). Twonky media server shows only few video files from folder, most of the files are there, but twonky does not recognize them at all. All video files are mp4 files and they are located on the same folder… I can play manually those files from PC, no problem at all.
Most of the missing files are created by using HandBrake ( ISO ==> mp4 ).
I have rebooted mycluod twice and also updated database manually. FW is up to date.
Some folders does not appear either.
EDIT !
I noticed that twonky has problem with mp4 files.
- Fixed a problem for shared folder options that were set to “Video” only. MP4-videos (and possibly other container formats) were not detected and therefore not shown in the shared media items.
what is in the log-file?
log has to be activated at
WD-IP:9000/#advanced
- LOGGING
- enable Logging
Log-file at
WD-IP:9000/rpc/log_getfile
should show items like:
15:04:51:093 [Error] - LOG_SCAN: db_add_video : /shares/Filme/(_HUMOR_)/PETER FRANKENFELD/HUMOR IST TRUMPF/PETER FRANKENFELD - PAPI GEHTS GUT -.AVI: file is invalid
15:04:51:093 [Error] - LOG_SCAN: Error: 2 No such file or directory
15:04:51:114 [Error] - LOG_SCAN: db_add_video : /shares/Filme/(_HUMOR_)/PETER FRANKENFELD/HUMOR IST TRUMPF/PETER FRANKENFELD - AM MORGEN DANACH -.AVI: file is invalid
15:04:51:114 [Error] - LOG_SCAN: Error: 2 No such file or directory
I have been fighting the same problem for the past few days - multiple mp4 files, encoded with exactly the same settings, apart from video bit rates. Some get correctly detected as videos, other show up as audio.
I have been recoding to different mp4 formats and wasn’t having any luck. Changing the file name appears to solve the problem and the mp4 files are then correctly recognised by twonky as a video file.
Slightly bizarre. This may not be a My Cloud issue, but more likely a Twonky server issue.
I’d be interested to hear what might be causing this bug? It doesn’t seem to be a length of file, or file size issue.

Thanks
Since MP4 can be either video or audio, I’m thinking there’s a metadata element that Twonky sees in the video that triggers it to sort as Audio.
It likely won’t happen if you use the M4V extension (Which is MP4 Video.)

It might be metadata, but then why would just changing the file name cause the file to be recognised? No change to file data, or extension.
But yes, changing the extension to mkv, also causes the file to become visible and recognised as a video file.
But it’s not an MKV file. MKV is a totally separate format than MP4.
M4V IS an MP4 file, as is M4A, all with the same format.
Its not a .mkv, but gets recognised and played correctly, with just a manual change in file extension.
This is the odd thing, it isnt a problem with the encoding as per say, but how the .mp4 file is detected as video vs audio by twonky. Changing just the file name is enough to get the files correctly scanned and identified.
