Is there a way to sort my NAS based films, pictures and music by date? Specifically in reverse date order?
How are you accessing a NAS? The WDTV HD’s don’t support networking.
If you have a Live/Live+ (which DOES support networking) then the answer is NO. Alphabetical is the only sort order.
I have the WD TV live and it can access network shares.
When limited to an alphabetical sort, the simple solution is to rename the files and folders…
“1954 - Rear Window.mkv”
“1957 - Witness For The Prosecution.mkv”
…
“1980 - Iron Maiden”
“1981 - Killers”
“1982 - The Number Of The Beast”
…
etc.
Although you stll won’t get a reverse sort.
You do have to watch out for your formatting, however (at least with the WDTV HD… I don’t know about the Live or the Live Plus). You have to pad filenames with clunky zeroes, or else your sort order becomes:
Episode 1
Episode 10
Episode 11
…
Episode 2
Episode 20
Episode 21
…
Episode 3
…
Good idea. Thing is I have a ton of stuff that I normally use Mac Mini to access, so I want to leave folders alone. WD told me this will be a new feature and is on the road map.
