Slow transfer speeds with My Book Pro (via USB 3.0)

Hello,

I recently purchased a WD My Book Pro (6TB version). It’s currently running in Raid 0, but I’m getting ridiculously slow transfer speed on usb 3.0. It’s only averaging about 3 MB/sec. Normally if I were to transfer files between my other drives, it’s around 280 - 380 MB/sec. I’ve tried transferring files from both external & internal source to the My Book Pro. Also tried connecting another external source to the My Book Pro’s front USB 3.0 connecting slot, but still having the same slow transfer speed. Is this normal? Any suggestions?

I’m on a desktop PC… my computer specs:

i7 4930K
X79 Asus Deluxe motherboard
32gb memory
GeForce 780 gpu
SSD drive as OS

I’d recommend replacing the USB cable, and testing your hard drive for errors using WD Drive Utilities. I understand the unit is new, but the RAID level could be degraded and in need of a rebuild before it can perform optimally.

For some reason I had the same issue with included USB3/Micro-B.
I went out and got my own Micro-B to USB Type C 3.1 and now I hit speeds of 100 Mbps. I still can’t improve it.

I ordered a Thunderbolt2 to USB Type C 3.1 to see if that improves it. I don’t expect to exceed the maximum transfer rate of the drive.

That was the key. These drives are WD Black. It’s somewhere around the 115Mbps transfer rate. It’s sort of deceptive to state the throughput of usb3 and thunderbolt 2 without clearly stating that this drive is limited to the maximum sequential write speed. I know the WD Black shows a potential throughput of 3Gbps but most sequential tests peg it at 0.148Gbps.
