I know this may sound like a stupid question, but should the MyCloud be running when the computer is asleep or off? Mine seems to run constantly even when I’m not accessing it. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!
The My Cloud is designed to be left on 24/7. Do a search (use the magnifying glass icon upper right) for “sleep” in this subforum. There is a lot of discussion and methods to try and get the My Cloud hard drive to sleep when not in use. Make sure to enable the Drive Sleep option within the My Cloud Dashboard > Settings > General > Energy Saver > Drive Sleep = On.
The problem many experience is the My Cloud will go to sleep after 10 minutes (or so) of inactivity then wake up minutes/hours later because the firmware is writing something to the hard drive. This cycle repeats constantly which causes the drive not to sleep for long periods of time when not used.
Thank you for the information. I will check on that. I also checked in to it a little more & found I had files going to it that I really didn’t need backed up. So, I stopped the sync backup. I would rather control that manually than allow it to be automatic. I don’t make that many changes where it needs to be backed up all the time. Hopefully the steps I’ve taken & your suggestion will help to stop it from running constantly.
