Samba upgrade on V3.X firmware?

Dumb question…looks like “smbstatus” command doesnt exist on my firmware so i cant tell which verion of samba i’m running. How can i check sambe version.

ALso from these forums it looks like that newer samba in the new 4.X verison is faster?

I’m wondering can i simply upgrade samba on my existing 3.x FW ?

Found this, but it looks like that samba is not installed on my drive? Hows that possible. Or does does WD has its own samba version.

nas1:/shares/personal# apt-cache policy samba
samba:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 2:3.6.6-6+deb7u4
  Version table:
     2:3.6.6-6+deb7u4 0
        500 http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ wheezy/main armhf Packages

ok so turns out my drive on FW3.x is already running the following

nas1:/shares/personal# smbd -V
Version 4.0.0rc5

Does anyone know, whats different in FW4.x then?

Hello there,

I don’t have this information since i have not tried this, lets see if another user can share some tips regarding this matter.

the later v4 FW seems better but no detials

you could not just place the V4 samba on v3 for to the pagesize change if no other reason.

I know we cant just take V4’s samba and put it on V3. I meant if there was a newer samba version that was faster in general that i could install on V3.

The samba versions are the same.

Both the (later) 3.x versions and 4.x are using Samba 4.0.0rc3.
