Question: Does OS3 > OS5 Upgrade Retain Users/Shares/Backups

We use 2 PR4100 units in our business, one at the main office and one off-site that we do remote backups to from the office unit. We only map drives for our users through Windows File Manager and only access the units directly with a Web Browser. Will upgrading retain all users, shares, share permissions and remote backups that have been set up? We do NOT want to upgrade if we have to re-create all this.

DO NOT UPGRADE. Just don’t. While your shares stay, there are MANY other considerations like you’re FORCED to use their URL to access the drive for management which could mean you could be totally out of luck if WD shuts down the service, sells out, or gets hacked/attacked. This is a HORRIBLE upgrade that literally adds nothing for most businesses. Home users maybe, but even then it’s a BAD idea.

Thank you for your advice! I am going to take your advice and NOT upgrade! Very much appreciated!
