Play music from lokal USB storage via iOS app (without using TV)

Dear Community

I recently bought the WD TV (not the live) and so far everything works well.

The only item I have not been able to figure out is how I can play music through the WD TV from an attached USB HDD without using turning on the TV by just using an app (iOS).

Can anyone of you help me out?

Regards, Marc

Welcome to the Community.

Do you mean the WD TV Remote app?

Hi Tancer

I have the WD remote app on my iphone but I find it not very helpfull since I still need to turn on the TV in order to start an intenet radio or play music from my network storage.

I am looking for advise of other apps which would allow me to play interet radio (TuneIn, ShoutCaset, etc.) and let me play my locally stored files without turining on the TV.

Marc

I’m not an Apple iOS user but …

Using Android DLNA Apps … (eg. BubbleUPnP)  i can access contents of WDTV attached storage via my Tablet (and don’t need to have the TV on)

I guess, search the Apple iOS store for DLNA apps

I have no idea how to access Online Services on your WDTV, without having the TV on.

Of course, there should be apps on your phone to access Tunein, Shoutcast etc … but i’m assuming you have your WDTV connected to a Surround Sound System … which is why you don’t want to turn the TV on.

I have checked the iOS app store and tried basically all apps that were availabe as free versions. Non of them was able to access the WD attached storage…

Anybody… help… …?
