PC crashed, luckily backed up, but I want to replace with a Mac -- help?

Hello!  I know nothing about computers so forgive me.  I had a PC that I knew was on its last leg, so I bought a WD external hard drive for PC and backed everything up.  The inevitable happened.  Now, I’d like to buy a mac instead of a PC.  Is there anyway to get my files, music, pictures from the hard drive onto the mac?  Or onto some other device that can then be put on the mac?  Thanks!

There is software that will read the drive formatted for Windows NTFS. One is NTFS-3G It went pay so this link may not work any longer http://sourceforge.net/projects/ntfs-3g/ This post has a little more see post 6 http://community.wdc.com/t5/WD-Portable-Drives/unwritable-drive/td-p/435872 . If they doesn’t solve the problem post back there are some other things to try. Moving the data feformatting the drive FAT32 the down side is the largest file size that will accept is 4 gig. Try checking the Mac forums and see if there is a way to transfer data from Windows to mac possibly by networking.
