Passport on Windows 7 - WORKED for YEARS - now it does not back up fiiles correctly

Installed a USB wired Passport Model identifier
WDBYFT0020BRD-0B serial # WX71EB60CEHH
onto a Windows 7 Toshiba Laptop in 2016 - it has worked PERFECTLY for years! This week, when it did a back up it did not COPY the actual JPEG Image Files - it build what looks like a redundant LIST of small TEXT FILES - WHAT HAPPENED??? I DID NOT CHANGE ANYTHING!!! DID WD update some software BEHIND MY BACK??? Please help out! Thanks! gkkearny@gmail.com
