I am trying to do a backup, the screen comes up showing what is on the computer and what is on the My Book but the backup and retrieve icons are shaded. What’s wrong?

Click on the my book on the home tab and the backup and retrieve will work again
the latest version of the software requires the drive to be selected before starting the backup
this feature is convenient if you have multiple drives

What version of WD Smartware you have? Try clicking on the drive Icon, after the latest smartware version you need to click on the drive you want as destination.
