When restoring my computer to factory defaults, I missed unplugging a WD MyBook Drive. The hard drive was locked with a password and contains data, about 2 weeks old. Now that I have my system up and running, the drive shows up in Computer Management only. It shows as unalocated, and not initialized. I had 2 other drives, that I did unplug, and they work fine now that they are reattached. Even if I don’t need the data, not able to initialize the drive as write protected
WD Software does not show the drive, so I can’t unlock the the drive.
Anyone have any solutions.
Tried formatting, initializing, updating WD Software, and moved it to 2 other computers with no luck.
If data is not important, you can try performing a DiskPart on the drive and then try to initialize it from the disk management.
*Use the Windows key + X keyboard shortcut to open the Power User menu and select Command Prompt (Admin). Connect the drive you want clean and format to your computer.
Type the following command and press Enter:
diskpart
*Type the following command to list all the available drives and press Enter:
list disk
*Take your time and very carefully, on the output from the previous command, identify the drive you want to clean.
*Use the following command to select the drive and press Enter:
select disk 3
*Remember to change 3 in the command with the number of the drive you want to clean. If you fail to choose the correct number will erase all the data from the wrong drive.
*Type the following command to clean the drive and press Enter:
There is data on the drive since I was replacing an older drive, and had just copied all my data to the new drive. The drive shows up in WD Quick View, but not in any of the other WD programs, such as WD Security, WD Drive Utilities or WD Smart-ware.
Really looking for a way to unlock the drive, I do have the correct password.
