Probably a dump question:

I just purchased my first external hard drive (WD My Book Essential). I have a Mac Book Pro.

Can I simply click on the “My Book” icon on my desktop, create a new folder and drop items into it? Will this truly store them on the hard drive?

A follow up question regarding to iPhoto. Can I simply export “events” to the My Book drive (creating a new folder as I go)?

Yes.

You might need to FORMAT the drive prior to transferring and creating files

After that it will be fully functional
