I’ve got a Mac Book and a 1TB My Book Essential. I’m trying to use it without the Smartware program. I think i have gotten rid of the software but the My Book is still read only and i can’t work out how to fix it. Is it even possible just to use this My Book as a normal external hard drive? If you have an answer please explain it simply, i really have no idea about computers. Thanks
Did you format the drive for the Mac? Essentials comes formatted for Windows NTFS and is read only on Mac.If you only intend to use the driveonly on Mac reformat it. If you need to use on both Mac and Windows download NTFS-3G http://mac-free.com/download/NTFS-3G.html Then the Mac and Windows will be able to use the drive.
