Do you know if there’s a way to get a usb dvd working on this box

Officially. there is no support for USB DVD Players.

But, someone on this forum claims to have got one working …but, there’s no guarantee any brand will work, and it must have a “AV Connectivity” mode and the person doesn’t state whether he tried Commercial DVD’s (with Encryption) or just burnt DVD’s with mp4/mkv on them.

WD TV Live works with External DVD

Just wanted to post my findings… I was able to play: -DVD’s single layer (w/subtitles) -DVD’s dual layer (w/subtitles) -mkv and mp4 on DVD Single layer (w/subtitles) on the WD TV Live by using the Samsung SE-208AB external slim DVD writer using the AV Connectivity mode. Unfortunately, -mkv and mp4 on DVD Dual layer plays but, its choppy and unable to RW or FF, although subtitles work. hope it helps, been waiting for this a long time.

Personally, i would not recommend spending (wasting) your money on a USB DVD in the hopes of it working … it most likely won’t.

If you stick to ripping your DVD Collection to an External USB Harddrive in either VOB Structure Format or ISO Image File … that will 100% be Supported by the WD TV.s

Back in Standard Definition days i used to rip my DVD’s to ISO on a 4TB USB HDD connected to the WD TV … worked perfectly, complete with DVD menu navigation, extra features and of course the movie.
