Need NVMe that is Gen3 x2

This is for an older system that proved to have a weird quirk. It supports Gen3 x4 NVMe on a PCIe card, but NOT in the native m.2 slot, which apparently fell through MSI’s cracks and only supports Gen3 x2.

Can anyone point me at a model number for an NVMe (or if necessary, SSD) that is Gen3 x2 ?? Any size will do.

Hi @Reziac

Have you opened a Support Case? If not opened, for more information, please contact the Flash Technical Support team for best assistance and troubleshooting:

M.2 NVMe SSD can work in x2 slots if that is all you have

I use x4 provisioning which works better

This one is confirmed with MSI as not forward-compatible. – Gen3 x4 will not work in the onboard slot, tho works fine on a PCIe card (but only one at a time – if there are two NVMe drives, only one is seen no matter how they’re set up – eg. on separate cards).

Supposedly the m.2 slot will support SATA but so far I haven’t found one that’s not either worn out or outrageously overpriced.

It’s not a problem with an existing WD drive, but I prefer WD so was hoping one was still available from new stock.

PCIe cards do not usually have a PCIe multiplex chip to switch from one device to another.

Actually, the better card supports four NVMes simultaneously.

However, turns out the board doesn’t support PCIe bifurcation. So it can only see one at a time. Also does not support two vidcards, likely the same deficiency. (Meanwhile my Asus x79 board, two years older, supports three.)

older boards may have some issues when using new products

That’s why I was looking for an older NVMe!!
