Just in the past two weeks, any MS Word or Excel file I save on my my WDMyCloudEX4100 share is becoming corrupt. Do you have any idea why this is happening? A NAS drive is of little use if all of the files you save to it become useless.
Are you getting an error when you save them or when you go back to open them? What about other file types (or is it just those two)? If so, what’s the error?
Do they save/open elsewhere OK (like local drive, USB drive)? Have you tried to save them on another share? Have you tried to copy a known good one to the NAS, then copy it back and open it?
Go into your 4100 dashboard and double check on the health of the array and each drive.
Yes, it is your client OS that is corrupting the files.
Every OS that can run MS Word or Excel has a version and build number and each could be running a different version of SMB client (or Samba in BSD and Linux and macOS).
Each version of SMB client can have unintended permission error causing writes to the NAS SMB server.
There can be a simple way to resolve this in one line in some instances, but given the lack of description of your OS in your question, it is not possible to answer.
Hey, the corruption of your files on the WD My Cloud EX4100 could be caused by network issues, recent updates, file locking problems, incorrect permissions, or failing drives. Check for network disruptions, review updates for any compatibility issues, and make sure file locking is working correctly.
Also, check your user permissions and the health of the drives. Running a file system check might help resolve any issues, and if the problem continues, try remapping the drive or accessing the NAS from another device.
