Mycloud Home HDD 2TB is dead

Hello everyone, my Hdd make some noises when device start and after few second the white led became solid. I’ve opened device and connected disk to adaptator; impossible to run drive. is it possible to have mycloud home file system for installing another wd red drive in the device?

  1. WD does not support user Hdd replacement in the My Cloud Home (MCH)
  2. WD makes it difficult to open the shell casing of the MCH because there is no user replaceable parts inside.
  3. The MCH is a cheap device and not worth hacking in order to replace with a ‘wd red drive’ which is in itself unsuitable for NAS use.
  4. The MCH is near its End of Life service and WD appeared to have stopped new supplies and vending of its entire My Cloud series of network storage.
  5. Home users can still purchase refurbished MCH at discount and with warranty in many parts of the world if that is what they really want.

thanks for your reply; I understand that there is no things to do for me because compagny stop assistance for this device. of course, I’m a user but I’ve skills for doing that operation. I just need file’s system: is it possible to have it?

No, you don’t understand. WD still has technical and warranty support for the MCH. If you still have factory warranty, they will replace the unit.

What WD will not do is let you hack the MCH OS4 with their assistance.

Good for you. Then you should’ve realized that you always had the ability to dd or Clonezilla the MCH disk image before the disk crashed or you could buy another MCH and clone the disk image from that. Or you could go to a Russian hacker forum and find a disk image that may or may not let you boot up or re-image the MCH.

What WD will not do is to supply users with the image to hack the MCH OS4 with their assistance.

If you indeed have the ‘skills for doing that operation’ you should be able to find out how to reinstall the MCH file system and proprietary partitions well documented by others on this subforum.

Thank you for your assist.
I will try the second approach; I’ve thought to the first approach early but there is no more units of mycloud Home in my country.
