Good morning all, I just completed my first Time Machine backup. The Mycloud Drive is being used for the Time Machine backup. I do have another drive plugged into the USB (3TB Seagate) of the Mycloud. I store files on this drive and wanted Time Machine to back it up along with my Mac and a small drive attached to the Mac’s USB port. After the Time Machine back was come completed, the Mac and the attached USB drive were all backed up to Mycloud BUT Time Macine did not see the 3TB Seagate drive that was on the My Cloud drive via USB? Is there a setting I missed in either Time Machine or Mycloud setup?
Thanks in advance
Mike
Hello,
Time Machine is a software built in your computer’s operating system. Therefore, Time Machine won’t recognize an external drive connected to another device as a backup source.
Take a look at the users manual since there is a way to backup your USB device to the My cloud device.
You can change the location of the Time Machine backup on the My Cloud by selecting “Configure” next to the Mac Backup > Time Machine setting in the My Cloud Dashboard > Settings > General section.
See the My Cloud User Manual (http://support.wdc.com/product.aspx?ID=904) or the Dashboard Help for more information. In the User Manual see Mac Backups under Chapter 9 Configuration Settings, General.
When you attach a USB hard drive to the My Cloud it should be mounted as a Share. One should be able to select that Share as a Time Machine backup location using the Mac Backup Time Machine Configuration option.
