Hello there I’ma a native German speaker so I hope to describe the problem so it could be unterstood.
Windows 7 (64)'s Disk Management tells me that the MyBook Essential 1.5 TB drive is still there, but it has lost its drive management letter. Windows tells me to initilize the drive. When I follow this recommendation I a new window pops up that request either to choose MBR or GUID. I chose MBR and then windows replies something like “Drive is write protected.”
Using a tool that checks S.M.A.R.T. information tells me it could not be read.
Currently the HDD box (still under warrenty) is back at the computer shop and my ex wife (it’s my daughters drive) advised them to check the drive and rescue the data if possible.
Is there any recovery tool that can handle the drive w/o a drive letter assigned?
Does someone know which exact drive model is mounted in this “MyBook Essential 1.5 TB Box”?
Mounted HDD: Could a PCB swap possibly help to get agin access to the data?
What’s the way Individual disk parameters are stored in that drive model?
Are they stored in a small EEPROM that possibly can be unsoldered and resoldered to a PCB that runs well?
Thank you for your assistance!
Regards, bigboreshooter
