I have been using the WD Elements 1TB portable hard drive. Suddenly it stopped showing up in the my computer section. But the hard drive is recognised by my computer and is available while checking in the hardwares connected section. It is showing as not allocated for any format and I am not able to format it further

I recommend you try replacing the USB cable and/or writing zeros using WD DLG.
