When I start my MacBook Pro, my My Passport Ultra shows up just fine in Finder. But if my laptop is unused for more than 10 minutes, it disappears. And I cannot get it to reappear. I have to shut down and restart each time.
This is the third time in 2 months I have reached out for assistance on this same problem. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? I can not deal with this any longer. Either I find a solution or I’m dumping WD and looking for something else.
What macOS are you running? Perhaps the drive gets unmounted after 10 minutes. Please check Energy Saver through System Preferences. Also, when it disappears go to Disk Utility and check if it is visible there.
Also make sure the cables are fine. Do check your disk with First-Aid.
Imp Tip: Backup it’s data to another device.
Thank you for your input. I’m running a MacBook Plus with MacOS v10.15.5. Nothing is working!
Another question: What format is your external drive formatted? APFS?
You can backup the external drive and erase it with another format like Mac OS Journaled.
This might solve the problem. However, there is no guarantee as well. I am using 1TB My Passport on High Sierra with ex-FAT and it works fine.
