I have had my WD External Drive (My Passport) for about three years - Absolutely no issues. Got it to protect ALL of our family photos. Tonight, tried to open it and I heard a couple of clicking sounds and now the drive cannot be accessed. Keep getting a message that I must format the drtive to use it. Does this mean my photos (and my itunes library) are lost forever? IF the drive has failed, is there a way to recover the data? Is it epensive?

If you wish, you can use a data recovery software you can do a Google search and check some out since your drive is coming up on the computer.
