My Passport for Mac always gets error

My brand new WD Passport for Mac goes through the Time Machine backup as if it’s doing its job but, when I try and open to check to see if the backup is there it always comes up with an error saying it had an error and couldn’t complete the backup.

It does this every time I try and run Time Machine.

Any ideas?
