I appreciate your help in solving my problem which is in a sudden My Passport(External Hard Drive 320GB) is not showing in My Computer. When I plugged it in the pc, the light will be flashing (on & off) for few seconds and then it will be on.In the Device Manager, I can see the WD drivers that are installed successfully and no issues. However when I go to the Computer Management, it will show that 2047.35 GB unallocated and not initialized. First, the size is wrong and once I tried to initialize it, it will say that the media is write protected.
I tried to change the cable and to use another one, as well as, checking it on a new pc, it will still say the same.
So please assist me in picking up my files from it.
I suggest trying to see if there is a data recovery software you can try since the drive is showing up on the operating system, you can also check on this lists of partners for WD see if they are of some help, some of the companies have free diagnostic on the drive hope this helps : http://support.wdc.com/recovery/index.asp?wdc_lang=en
Lets also see if another user can share some information or tips on this mater.
I have the exact same problem (same model), it is unforntunate but the reality is WD don’t care about consumer drives that they have sourced from many places especially once you are out of warranty. I.E… DON’T BUY AGAIN this model, or other crud by seagate that has failed too. I feel ripped off. IF? your data is not backedup elsewhere !NOT the Cloud! then it will be a maybe starting at $1000 and greater
