My element 1tb drive beeps long after i turn the computer off at night. It may start beeping 2-3 hours after i turn the laptop off. So i unplug drive till next morning. Doesnt beep while computer is on and works great and fast. Just bought Another so id have two.
Test it on a different computer to see if it’s the computer that’s causing it (ie. computer may still be providing power to usb port even when switched off) or if there is a problem with the 1TB Element.
I own several Elements drives 1TB, 2TB, 4TB USB Portable drives for years and recently pruchased ones and none of them do what you describe.
I have it into a hub. The power cabler was a bit out. I pushed back in. BUT, it’s a powered hub so it is probably powered when computer is off. Also if cable was half out maybe it was getting intermittent power. It doesn’t start for hours after I turn it off sometimes. Other times it starts with in a few minutes.
I’ll test tonight to see with it power cord fully inserted. I just copied about 1.16 GB from the older one to the new one I got today. No noise no problems.
That’s a new bit of info you left out in your original post … nice to have the full picture now
Try the 2TB Elements connected directly to your PC’s USB Port.
There could be something wrong with the Powered USB Hub then … i know that some/cheap USB Hubs can “Back Power” the PC’s USB port when the Computer is completely Shutdown … which is not a good thing … for your PC or the Hard Drive.
Ok now its been plugged all the way in for 36 hours. Cmptr on and off and no beeps. Ive accessed both drives several times. No problems. I will wait till tmr to confirm that problem was power cable being slightly unplugged. Think i hv to tape power connecter to be safe.
What ssd would u recommend. Internal and external?
