My Cloud Home Duo - Hard Drive Replacement

Hello

I currently own an 20TB Home Duo with a faulty drive that needs replacement.

Currently the unit has 2 of WD100EFAX drives installed with one drive making clicking noises.

I have found a local vendor who can sell new WD101EFBX and wanted to know if these drives are compatible with the Duo before I commit to purchase.

Thank you.

The WD My Cloud Home comes in 2TB, 3TB, 4TB, 6TB, and 8TB capacities. For users who want more storage or greater security, they can opt for the My Cloud Home Duo . These come with two drives and can be configured in either RAID 0 or RAID 1, depending on your needs.

This doesn’t help.

I know it’s not the best reference but this site has your hard drive model in the Home Duo so I think it should work.

Installed an WD101EFBX with an WD100EFAX and it seems to be working fine.

Initially I got the LED heartbeat pulse after the install which indicates the drives where synchronising the raid 1 configuration. Now I am getting a solid LED and the drive is accessible.

I wish WD would include some basic diagnostic or status tools via an app so I can check the general health of the system.

Just hope WD doesn’t do something malicious on the next firmware update and brick the device because it has two different spec WD Red Drives.

Absolutely. We shouldnt have to depend on counting lights and going, “There are 4 lights!”, to determine if the drives are syncing and working.

Interestingly how long did it take to sync the drives to RAID (e.g. copy all the data across) about to do this with a 6TB Duo and replace one drive

I don’t remember specifically but within 24 hours. Still working fine.

Hi All, can i install 2 different sizes of HDD, e.g 1TB and 2TB?

Yes ofcourse

To replace the hard drive in a My Cloud Home Duo, you can do the following:

  1. Turn off the My Cloud Home Duo by holding down the power button on the back for five seconds and then unplugging the power cord
  2. Use the drive access tool to open the top lid from the rear
  3. Locate the hard drives, which are labeled with numbers
  4. Press down on the plastic latch of the tray that holds each hard drive in place
  5. Gently pull the plastic tray and hard drive up and out
  6. Remove the plastic tray from the hard drive by gently flexing the tray to release the pins
  7. Save the tray and do not return it to WD
  8. When putting the new hard drives into the enclosure, make sure to put them in the same order and position as the originals
