My Book Mirror Edition - How to RAID in El Capitan

Hi everyone,

I know that the issue is already discussed in previous topics but…
After days of searching for a working solution, I found nothing.

So, I have a My Book Mirror Edition 2TB (you know, the “old” one) and I want to make it work as a RAID 1 storage.
However, neither WD Driver Utilities or WD Manager work for me.

WD Driver Utilities, doesn’t recognise the hard disk. When I drag and drop the disk from the “Devices” in the WD Driver Utilities, a cloud of dust come’s out and I hear the sound empty trash does. Also, the disk disappears from the “Devices” section in Finder.

Regarding WD Drive Manager, the little blue icon shows up on the right top corner for 3-4 seconds when the Mac enters El Capitan and then disappears.

A piece of information that may be usefull to you is that I have erased the disk with Disk Utility in Mac Extended Journaled format.

Anyway, my Mac sees the drive, I can read and write.

What I want is to make a RAID1 so I can use only the 1TB as free space and get the mirroring functionality.

Any ideas? Working solutions?

WD Drive Utilities will not recognize that hard drive since the app only supports newer units. Try downloading the latest version of your unit’s drive manager from the following link:

However, the latest update dates from 2013 for Mavericks.

Hi Trancer,
Thank you for the reply.

I downloaded and installed the drivers (WD Macintosh +TURBO Drivers). It was the only thing I hadn’t try so far.
WD Drive Manager (Mac) 3.1.0 is already installed.

I reboot my Mac, as asked after the drivers’ installation and… Same thing. The blue little logo showed up for a few seconds on the top bar and then disappeared

So, if understand correctly, from now on I have to use the device as a simple 2TB external hard drive, right?
