Hi there - I have not used My Book Essential for a long time as I always had problems opening it to do a back up - eventually I used to copy and paste pictures to it but I want to do scheduled back ups so plugged it in today, but cannot open the SmartWare to start a back up - the icon is there and in the start menu but when I click “open” nothing happens - very frustrating, can anyone advise please? should I remove the software and (hopefully) download again? if the program is there, why won’t it open? thank you!!

I recommend you uninstall WD Smartware and then install its latest version.
