I have a 1tb My Book external USB drive about 30% full, about 8 months old. All of a sudden last night I can’t copy large files (800mb) from the drive back to my computer. It starts to copy, then hangs, then says it can’t find the file path anymore and restarts the drive. Smaller files have no problem copying. I also can’t play movies from the drive anymore. It crashes the media player after about 10 minutes of playback. Music plays fine off the drive. No problems accessing the drive, just copying large files and playing movies. I tried running both tests from SmartWare and it failed. Any clues? It sits on my desk, hasn’t been dropped at all.

Try testing the unit with the DLG tool and if it fails and your drive still under warranty, you should contact WD RMA team.
