Missing in action

Just purchased My Book WD 6TB external hard drive which I use for extending my overloaded hard drive.

I created needed folders and drag and dropped them to new drive. When I checked all seemed to go well.

After shutting laptop down without closing backup, and restarting the next morning, WD Drive Utilities says “Attach a Supported WD Drive”

Any ideas on how i may be able to bring the hard drive back to my screen? The drive is working but the connection is not apparent.

Did you check drive in another USB port?

If yes, you can have a look on this KBA.

Yes I have tried both ports with negative result.

Daniel at WP tech support walked me through the checks and it has been determined the HD should be returned for a new one.
